Activities

Beyond competing in Capture-The-Flag contests around the world, FluxFingers organize and support a number of events and initiatives that bring IT security to students, newcomers, and the wider community.

Hosting the Hack.lu CTF

Every year we organize the Hack.lu CTF, one of the longest-running and most respected Capture-The-Flag competitions, run alongside the Hack.lu security conference. Building the challenges and the infrastructure for hundreds of teams worldwide is one of our biggest undertakings.

HiddenQuest

We back HiddenQuest, a beginner-friendly hacking workshop and CTF for FINTA people aged 16 to 25. It pairs an online qualifier with an in-person workshop in Bochum and aims to introduce offensive security to people who are underrepresented in the field.

FluxRookies

Each winter term we run FluxRookies, our open beginner course where we teach the skills needed to play CTFs. It is not a university course, so everybody is welcome, and you can come and go anytime you want.

Outreach & Teaching

We like to get newcomers excited about IT security and CTFs, for example with talks at student-orientation events such as Inside RUB. Some of our members also volunteer with NFITS e.V. (Nachwuchsförderung IT-Sicherheit), the association that organizes the Cyber Security Challenge Germany (CSCG). From time to time our members speak about security topics at security conferences such as Chaos Communication Congress, DEF CON, Black Hat, and Hack.lu Conference.

Cooperations

We work closely with partners from academia and industry, among them the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security (HGI), the Faculty of Computer Science at the Ruhr University Bochum, G DATA CyberDefense, and Hack.lu Conference.
